In Astana, soy milk was found to exceed the permissible GMO norm, Tengrinews.kz reports with reference to the press service of the city’s Department of Public Health (DPOH).
“The dairy product “Soy milk with original taste SOYA MILK DRINK Original Flavor (290 milliliters) produced in Bangkok was found to contain GMO soybeans exceeding the permissible limit of 0.9 percent,” the department said in a statement. 

The Astana Department of Public Health emphasized that the packaging of these products does not contain information about GMO content. 

“This product was identified during a test purchase at the Metro shopping center of Metro Cash and Carry LLP, and the research was carried out on the basis of an international accredited laboratory of the capital’s center of national expertise. Measures are being taken to check the retail network, remove identified unsafe products from circulation and attract to administrative responsibility," the department added. 

As noted by the DOOH, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are organisms in whose genetic apparatus the genes of another organism are artificially inserted.
